About HaRdLUG

HaRdLUG is a group of adults and older teens in the region of Hampton Roads, Virginia using LEGO to connect with our local community and each other and celebrating that play is something you never outgrow.

We share our passion for LEGO by displaying what we build at public events throughout our region, and are always looking for fun new partnerships which match our volunteer members’ interests with the goals of organizations hosting community events.

We have monthly meetings where we usually share some of the projects we are personally working on, plan for future events and collaborative displays, and occasionally have a building challenge.

HaRdLUG has been a Recognized Lego User Group under the LEGO Ambassador Network since 2002. In 2026, LEGO transformed this program into the LEGO Fan Colab, and we are working to become a Recognized LEGO Fan Community under the new program in 2027.

Come meet us:

If you’re interested in joining us, just come to one of our meetings. You can find meeting details on this website. The most important measure of membership in HaRdLUG is participation. Show up; we’d love to meet you!

How to join:

Show up! HaRdLUG is driven by participation. Show up at a meeting to get to know us, what we’re about, and what we’re working on. Bring something you’ve built, or just yourself. If you like what you see, consider attending one of our events or participating in one of our collaborative projects. You can display something you built, or come help staff our tables, and talk to the attendees who share our love for LEGO.

As part of becoming a Recognized LEGO Fan Community, we will begin operating under formal bylaws. Membership will require monthly dues and be tied to certain benefits, but we plan to always welcome friends new or old who prefer more casual participation.

What’s with the name?

The “HaRd” in our name is a creative abbreviation for one of the several names for our region, Hampton Roads, Virginia. Hampton Roads itself is the name of the historic waterway where the Chesapeake Bay, James River, and Elizabeth River all come together.

The name Hampton Roads has also come to collectively identify the Seven Citites in our area, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, and Newport News. Friends in Williamsburg, nearby counties, and across the line in North Carolina are of course welcome too, but connections are more important than proximity, however they happen!
